The organisation is working on Dalit Youth Leadership Promotion Training, Social Security Programme and PRI workshop for the enhancement of the dalits. The organisation is playing a great role in empowering the people to acquire government-aided benefits. These programmes enable the area in the successful implementation of government schemes in the area.

Dalit Development

Bihar Dalit Cluster Development Project is a special program started in 2003 and is supported by an international agency Luthran World Relief – LWR for the socio-economic upliftment of dalits (downtrodden community). The programme has been designed by the local prominent organisation Dalit Vikas Vindu and implemented by Parivar Vikas. It is being implemented in 14 villages of Dabil and Jitjhingoi Panchayats of Khaira block of Jamui district.

The programme is working on the following thematic areas:

EDUCATION

The organisation has been running 10 non-formal education centres covering 310 Dalit children of the target area. The children are first taken regularly to these centres and then, they are admitted to the nearby government primary schools. The project staff regularly visits these schools to monitor the progress of the children. Several promotional activities are also organised each year to increase their learning achievements and interests.

HELATH

Parivar Vikas have been organizing several activities to improve the health status of the Dalits. The project health worker regularly visits the villages for community awareness. The project works on awareness building on child care, family planning, reproductive health; AIDS, Malaria, etc. in liaison with government awareness camps, meetings, rallies, workshops, etc.; which are regularly being organised among community members.

Livelihood Generation and Economic Enhancement

The economic status of the entire working area is low. The people are mostly dependent on the agriculture but most of the people have had to be work less more than half of the year. The organisation is working on several programs to enhance the economic status of the target community. The organisation has formed 34 SHG groups and a federation for the socio-economic enhancement of the women. The groups are being empowered with proper skills for income generation. They have been also supported financially by the organisation and further resources are being mobilized through DRDA/Banks.

Apart from the above, the organisation is also conducting skill development training such as driving, hand-pump repairing, bicycle repairing, mason, etc. for youths of the target community. Other types of support are also being provided; such as bamboo plantation for Turi community; whose main livelihood activity is bamboo related production.
